My square dance calling journey began in 1994 in my hometown in Sweden, but you could say calling was already in my blood! Both of my brothers were square dance callers, so I grew up surrounded by the music, energy, and fun of square dancing.
In 1994, I caught the calling bug myself and began my journey as a square dance caller. As the years went by, my calling adventures grew, and I had the opportunity to call for several clubs, dances, and festivals in Sweden, as well as travel to Norway, Denmark, and Finland to call dances and festivals. The Scandinavian square dance community gave me wonderful experiences, friendships, and memories that I still treasure.
Then square dancing surprised me in an entirely different way—it introduced me to the love of my life, my husband, Jet Roberts. In 2003, love brought me from Sweden to California, where a whole new chapter of my life began.
In 2009, Jet and I welcomed our beautiful daughter, Stella, adding an entirely new and wonderful adventure to our lives. Being a wife and mother became another treasured part of my journey, alongside my love of square dancing.
I eventually found my way back behind the microphone and called for several clubs throughout California and Nevada, as well as festivals and special dances. The adventure continued to grow, and I became a recording artist and staff caller for Rhythm Records. I also had the opportunity to make guest recordings for Chic Records and Crown Records.
Then, in 2018, our family adventure took us to Huntsville, Alabama. I decided to take a break from calling so I could devote my time to raising Stella. Those years were incredibly special, and watching her grow has been one of the greatest joys of my life.
Now Stella is a senior in high school, and I find myself with more time to get back to something I’ve always loved—calling! For now, I’ve been happily stepping in to cover my husband’s clubs when his travels take him away. I currently call up to Plus, and I’m ready for the next adventure, hoping to fill more of my weekends with square dancing, great music, and happy dancers.
After all these years, the microphone is calling me back—and I’m excited to answer!
From Sweden to California, Nevada, and now Alabama, square dancing has been the thread running through so many chapters of my life. It brought me my husband, wonderful friendships, unforgettable experiences, my beautiful daughter Stella, and a passion that never really went away.
The music may have taken a few pauses along the way, but the dance has always been in my heart. And now, I’m ready to dance into the next chapter!
